The Mission of the Maine Wilderness Guides Organization is to provide a unified voice for the profession of wilderness guiding while maintaining the highest professional, educational, and stewardship standards for the conservation of remote woods and waters.
Our membership includes a wide array of professional guides and committed volunteers, all dedicated to offering safe, educational, and impactful outdoor experiences for our clients and guests. MWGO members are held to standards and qualifications that surpass those mandated by the state, positioning our organization as a leader in guide training and developmental opportunities. This includes comprehensive preparation for those aspiring to pass the Maine Guide exam.
MWGO champions the promotion of backcountry areas and trails that support both human and animal-powered exploration, suitable for extended journeys. These expansive backcountry regions not only provide excellent habitats for the wildlife we hunt or observe but also are optimal environments for guiding activities.
While not all Registered Maine Guides are part of MWGO, membership requires adherence to our strict code of ethics, ensuring all listed guides in our search directory are members in good standing.
As advocates for wildlife conservation and the preservation of serene backcountry recreation zones, we actively engage with legislative bodies and the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife to address issues vital to Maine Guides. Our ongoing commitment reinforces our role as custodians of Maine’s natural heritage, ensuring it thrives for future generations of guides and outdoor enthusiasts.
