Each spring, The Maine Sportsman magazine, in partnership with Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine, hosts the State of Maine Sportsman’s Show at the Augusta Civic Center. Last year, more than 8,000 folks were in attendance.
The organizers anticipate this year is going to be even bigger and better, with daily boat giveaways, a surplus firearms auction on Sunday, new and returning exhibitors, seminars and demonstrations, and two archery stations. The show will host the annual Duck Stamp Contest, as well as the popular Trail Camera contest. Turkey calling, a meeting of the NAVHDA dog enthusiasts, hourly raffles, and an extensive Kids Zone. There will be something for everyone!
This year, Maine Wilderness Guides Organization will have a booth for the Maine Sportsman’s Show! The show runs from noontime Friday April 19 through Sunday April 21 at the Augusta Civic Center and we are looking for volunteers! In return for volunteering to be at the booth for part of a day; you will get free admission to the show and an opportunity to share information about your guiding activities as well as talk about MWGO at our booth. The show runs 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday April 19; 9:00 am to 7:00 pm on Saturday April 20 and 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on Sunday April 21. If you would like to sign up for a 4-5 hour shift; please email info@mwgo.org with the day you are interested in and whether you’d like to be at the booth morning, afternoon or evening. Names are needed by April 3 to ensure there is a free vendors pass under your name the day you plan to volunteer.
We’ll be in a room with other vendors off the main floor with a monitor and laptop and some MWGO information. In addition, MWGO will be offering 15% off memberships for anyone who joins MWGO while attending the show. Joining during the show will also allow entry into a raffle.
There will be room at the booth for volunteers to have information out about their guiding business in addition to the MWGO information.
Whether or not you have a guide business up and running this is a great opportunity to talk to people interested in outdoor activities; fellow guides and businesses as well as potential clients.
We’ll have a small board to post your favorite guide trivia question as a way to encourage conversation as people wander past the booth.
We’re asking you to volunteer for four or more hours on Friday and Sunday and five hours, if possible, on Saturday.
To volunteer and/or for more information, email info@mwgo.org.
